PUGET18_SALMONRETURN.JPG
11/18/02 puget18 newsThe ancient tradition of honoring the first salmon of the year was revived by the Tulalip Tribes in 1996. In the ceremony the salmon is greeted, wrapped in ferns and cedar and then shared among the tribe and guests in a feast. Afterward the head, spine and tail is returned to the water, facing west so its spirit can tell others that they will be respected.
